Mattel once again rewarded subscribers by sending them an e-mail revealing the next Quarterly Variant in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line. I don’t think there’s really any need to keep it a secret, since it no doubt hit the web the second people started getting the e-mails, so there he is…Dragon Blaster Skeletor!
We’ve known for a week or so that this reveal would be coming soon, and many have been speculating that this would indeed be a Skeletor variant. Many rumors were pointing to either New Adventures Skeletor or Dragon Blaster Skeletor, the latter of which turned out to be correct.
He makes total sense for 2012. We already received Thunder Punch He-Man this year, and in the vintage line Dragon Blaster Skeletor was released alongside him. Also, this is a very heavily dragon themed year with Draego-Man already released and Granamyr coming later in the year. It’s kind of cool to add this version of Skelly to that group.
I think he looks great, and I’m excited to check him out in person. How about the rest of you? What do you think?

Coming to San Diego Comic Con 2012 is the Masters of the Universe Classics exclusive from Mattel known as Vykron!
Based on the three prototype action figures of He-Man created by Roger Sweet, the set includes three sets of interchangeable armor, allowing you to display Vykron as any of the He-Man Trio figures.

ToyGuru has been on a roll with these videos lately! I like these. I think it’s a really good way to show off the figures and their features in a way the usual press release cannot.
This time around, Scott shows off the upcoming San Diego Comic Con exclusive Dark Knight Rises Bruce Wayne to Batman figure set. This set looks pretty cool, from what we can see. I like the packaging quite a bit. That alone would make for a cool display. I’m interested to see exactly how the figure looks in hand.
He also gives us a quick glimpse of the MOTU Classics Snake Men 2-Pack and Horde Prime. If you want a closer look at Horde Prime, my video review is here.
I think I need to have a talk with Scott about his video quality. 🙂
Scott “ToyGuru” Neitlich from Mattel has once again posted an update video showcasing some upcoming figures from MattyCollector.com. This time we get a look at the Masters of the Universe Classics Griffin and more detailed information on Ghostbusters Dana as ZUUL.
Anyone who is subscribed to the 2012 Club Eternia service from Mattel opened their inbox today for a pleasant surprise: the reveal of the October 2012 Masters of the Universe Classics figure!
Mattel has sent me a third teaser image of the upcoming Masters of the Universe Classics Mosquitor figure. It’s the meanest teaser yet.
It’s funny how with each image sent to me, less of the figure seems to be revealed. This time, it looks like we’ve got just the tip of Mosquitor’s nose.
If Mattel and The Four Horsemen are trying to drive me insane, they are succeeding.
He’s the most controversial character to hit MOTU Classics! The third figure in the 30th Anniversary Collection and second all-new character has arrived! Join me for an advanced look at The Mighty Spector!
Fans are nervous about this bit of news, worrying that we may see prices as high as $30 and $40 per figure. Personally, I feel that Scott using the word “dramatic” was a poor choice here. I don’t imagine the prices will honestly be any higher than $22-$25 per figure.
I don’t like the high prices of toys either. In fact, I’ve often commented on how I hate how much toys cost these days. But I absolutely understand that as the years go by, the cost of living goes up, the cost of raw materials goes up, and the cost of products we purchase go up. We’ve honestly been lucky the prices have stayed the same since 2008 until now.
I understand there are quality control circumstances with this line that there is no excuse for. But in the grand scheme of things, I understand the price increase. And as long as it stays at the $22-$25 price point, I’m still good to buy.
So my question to all of you is this: what’s your limit? We all collect for different reasons. For me, MOTU is my first love when it comes to toys, and I would drop everything else I collect before I drop MOTU. But that’s not the same for everyone. So, at what point do you give up on buying MOTUC? What price is “too high?” Discuss!
