ToyGuru shows off MOTUC Snake Man-at-Arms and Griffin

Scott “ToyGuru” Neitlich informed me the other day that Mattel has not yet received PR samples of Snake Man-at-Arms and the Griffin, both of which go on sale this Friday. Since Mattel did not receive them, they of course could not send anything out for review before the sale.

In an effort to make sure fans still got a chance to see the figures before they go on sale, Scott did put together this quick video where he shows off the early figures they have at the Mattel offices.

I will of course still be doing reviews of both Snake Man-at-Arms and Griffin when my subscription figures arrive. Hopefully you guys will still give them a watch even though they will be posted after the sale date. 🙂

The Round-Up: Unofficial Guide to He-Man Reprint, Poe Ghostal Interview, SDCC Hellicarrier, more

Welcome to The Roundup, a new feature here on Pixel-Dan.com that will allow me to give some quick shout-outs, plugs, and just mention something toy related that caught my attention that may not necessarily warrant a full write-up. Here’s what’s on tap for this week’s roundup:

  • – Poe Ghostal, another friend of mine, has conducted an interview with yours truly along with several other well-known toy reviewers to ask the tough question: How does receiving free samples from toy companies affect the reviews? I know this is a topic many will be interested in reading about, and hope that my answers are both well-received and make for a good read. Poe’s introduction is up now, and each individual interview will follow.

  • – Over the weekend, Hasbro announced yet another San Diego Comic Con exclusive: The Avengers Hellicarrier playset that is over 4 foot long! Now we saw the Hellicarrier playset back at New York Toy Fair, but to my knowledge it has never actually hit retail stores. Now it’s almost a foot longer than before and is exclusive to SDCC. It will sell for a whopping $129.99, and surely be impossible to get home if you flew in. It also includes figures of Captain America and Maria Hill, though form the pictures they seem comic-styled and not movie-styled. Drat…I was hoping for the first-ever action figure of Robin Sparkles.

  • – Non-toy related, but The Video Game Years 1979 Part 1 was posted over the weekend at RetrowareTV.com.  I’m very happy to be a part of this very professional looking show. My hats off to the guys over there for all of their hard work on editing it each month. If you haven’t already, make sure you check it out!

That’s all I’ve got for this edition! Feel free to discuss below!

MOTU Classics Mosquitor Sneak Peek #4

The torture continues!

Mattel just sent along the 4th image teaser for the upcoming Masters of the Universe Classics Mosquitor figure!

This is a pretty good one, showing off the figure’s left arm! We can see Mosquitor’s short, brown gloves. Also, it looks like he’s utilizing the “monster” forearms as seen on figures like Whiplash and Kobra Khan. That’s an interesting and clever way to accomplish his forearms without a newly tooled piece. The vintage figure have similar “fins” on his forearms, just not quite the same as this.

I’m getting more and more excited to see the final figure!

Mattel reveals the next MOTU Classics Quarterly Variant!

Mattel once again rewarded subscribers by sending them an e-mail revealing the next Quarterly Variant in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line. I don’t think there’s really any need to keep it a secret, since it no doubt hit the web the second people started getting the e-mails, so there he is…Dragon Blaster Skeletor!

We’ve known for a week or so that this reveal would be coming soon, and many have been speculating that this would indeed be a Skeletor variant. Many rumors were pointing to either New Adventures Skeletor or Dragon Blaster Skeletor, the latter of which turned out to be correct.

He makes total sense for 2012. We already received Thunder Punch He-Man this year, and in the vintage line Dragon Blaster Skeletor was released alongside him. Also, this is a very heavily dragon themed year with Draego-Man already released and Granamyr coming later in the year. It’s kind of cool to add this version of Skelly to that group.

I think he looks great, and I’m excited to check him out in person. How about the rest of you? What do you think?

ToyGuru shows off SDCC Bruce Wayne to Batman

ToyGuru has been on a roll with these videos lately! I like these. I think it’s a really good way to show off the figures and their features in a way the usual press release cannot.

This time around, Scott shows off the upcoming San Diego Comic Con exclusive Dark Knight Rises Bruce Wayne to Batman figure set. This set looks pretty cool, from what we can see. I like the packaging quite a bit. That alone would make for a cool display. I’m interested to see exactly how the figure looks in hand.

He also gives us a quick glimpse of the MOTU Classics Snake Men 2-Pack and Horde Prime. If you want a closer look at Horde Prime, my video review is here.

I think I need to have a talk with Scott about his video quality. 🙂

Ghostbusters subscribers rewarded with GitD Slimer figure

Those who signed up for the ill-fated 2012 Ghostbusters Club Ecto-1 Subscription service from Mattel were told that they would be receiving a special gift after the subscriptions ended up being canned.

Those customers received an e-mail this week containing the above image letting them know that Mattel would be sending them a free Glow-in-the-Dark Slimer action figure.
