Since the Stinkor reviews have hit the net this past week, many fans have started to notice something a little “off” about him. While Stinkor has newly sculpted forearms combining the furry sculpt with the Skeletor “fins,” the fins do seem to be reversed.
On Skeletor, Mer-Man, and other figures who have the finned forearms, the fins always pointed more outwards. Stinkor’s point more inward. Because of this, fans were starting to wonder if this was another incident of Mattel accidentally swapping parts at the factory, similar to what we saw with the shoulders on Roboto and King Hsss.
While many fans have agreed that it doesn’t seem to be as noticeable on Stinkor, it was still becoming a question that was lingering. So I went straight to the source to see if I could figure out if the forearms are reversed or not. I asked Scott “Toyguru” Neitlich for a comment.
From Scott: “I checked with design and it actually was not a mistake but a deliberate way to differentiate Stinkor due to the heavy use of shared parts. Design discussed as a team and found that you could swap the gloves to create a slightly different look. They wanted to give Stinkor something extra since he is basically Mer-Man’s head on Beastman’s body and Mekaneck’s armor (even though we haven’t done Mek yet but you know what I mean!~). Much like painting Sorceress’ wings blue this was one way of making the toy pop a bit and be different on shelf. For reference, we also did this on BG Evil Lynn to much success!”
So there you go. Official word from Mattel is that they are reversed, but it was done intentionally by design.
My very talented friend Joe Amaro has sent along some work in progress shots of his upcoming fan project that he is calling the Mystic Hammer!
From Joe: “It’s coming out great, a little more cleaning then it’s time to cast and paint. The size is almost 5″ tall…it’s massive…perfect for 12” figures!
Once I’m finished cleaning I’ll post pictures of the hammer with some figures to show the size and scale. You can see in the images below that the top part will be hollow. This is so that it’s not too heavy which will allow for some awesome posing.
I’m thinking it should be ready for sale in the coming weeks. The price will $15.00 plus shipping. There will be a very limited quantity made as this is not mass produced.”
I am a huge fan of Joe’s work, and personally I’m very excited for this! I’ll definitely be sure to keep you all posted as updates come in. But if you guys want to check out Joe’s work for yourself (as you should!), you can follow him at his blog.

News was finally released that the new Battle Beasts MiniMates toy line kicks off at this weekend’s C2E2 convention in Chicago with this exclusive translucent red Ram figure!
News has broken this past week through various Ask Matty answers across the net that Mattel has cancelled both the 4″ and 6″ Young Justice toy lines. While this is sad news for many knowing that they will now be unable to complete the main team in 6″ form, it’s not much of a surprise. The 6″ scale figures are quite expensive, and seem to be clogging store shelves as a result. The 4″ scale figures also don’t seem to be moving very well.
You may have heard that the time is nearing for the end of the Young Justice toy line. While we’re as bummed as you are, we want to be sure you know this doesn’t in any way mean the end of DC toys from Mattel. In fact, it’s quite the opposite!
Next month kicks off not one, but two new lines: our DC Universe Club Infinite Earths subscription service dedicated to true collector characters you won’t find at retail. The first shipment goes out in May and features an all-new 6” Golden Age The Flash figure. If you missed out on this awesome subscription, a limited quantity will also be available at MattyCollector.com on May 15th at 9am PT. Then, in late May, head to your local retailer and you’ll find The Dark Knight Rises, a kid-targeted Batman™ line. And for 2013, we’re planning an innovative collector-aimed line coming to retail stores.
Keep your eye on this spot and we’ll have more details as they’re available. Our partnership with DC is stronger than ever and we couldn’t be more excited for all the amazing new collector and kid toys to come!
What exactly does this mean? I guess time will tell. Mattel is obviously trying for a little bit of damage control by telling us about all of their other upcoming lines. But with DC All-Stars already getting canned before it’s release, and DCUC moving to MattyCollector.com (and just barely, for that matter), one has to wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Mattel’s 6″ scale DCUC-style figures.
This six-issue series looks to rewrite Eternian history, as Skeletor has seemingly found a way to alter reality and become the ruler of Castle Grayskull, while He-Man and the other Heroic Warriors have no memory of their previous lives!
The series will be taking the darker, more serious tone that was more prominent in the 200X era of MOTU. When speaking of Skeletor specifically, Robinson says:
“He’s terrifying. Period. The silly era is done and gone. Phillip and I are taking great pains to make Skeletor, who is after all a barbarian warrior with a skull face, into a horrifying and worthy foe for He-Man. As to motivation, much like before he wants it all. Eternia. Castle Grayskull. Adam’s head on a plate. Everything. He’s just going to be much more ruthless in how he goes about getting it.”
This new MOTU series from DC Comics hits comic stands in July, and I for one am very excited! How about the rest of you? Excited?
