The Geek Easy Podcast – Ep. 001 – Man of Steel

Welcome to the inaugural episode of The Geek Easy Podcast! Pull yourself up a chair, grab yourself a beverage, settle in and get cozy. We’re about to go on one geeky ride!

Today, we’re talking Man of Steel. The film has been out for a little while now, and has done quite well for itself. But what did I think of the film? We’re going to go into that in detail today!

I’m joined by two special guests today, my good personal friends Jonathan and Ryan. Both have a very unique connection to the Man of Steel film. Not only is Jonathan a big Superman fan, but he was also an extra in the film! And Ryan actually worked on the film as the personal assistant to one of the main stars! Great company to discuss this film, I’d say!

Be forewarned, this episode is VERY spoiler heavy. Don’t even bother listening if you don’t want anything ruined!

Maybe you’ll disagree with our opinions. Maybe you’ll understand where we’re coming from. Either way, we hope you have some fun in The Geek Easy today!

Thanks man! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! 🙂 I've got some sound issues to work out with the mic, but I'm glad you enjoyed the discussion! Hopefully I can improve this show as I go forward, making it even more enjoyable. 🙂

Thanks for the Podcast! I love the conversation and how you break it all down! I really enjoyed it and look forward to hearing the next one.
And it sounds like a Superman movie… Bring back the Boy Scout Super Hero! Too much gritty crap now-a-days. That's why Marvel gets it right, they nail the character.
I haven't seen it yet, but I will watch it when it gets to Netflix.

.I actually listened to this podcast after The Wolverine discussion. Fantastic examination of the movie. I saw the movie, and, once again, you guys echoed my sentiment. I liked the movie as a movie, but it did not feel like Superman. It was more of a gut feeling when I watched it, and I could not put a name to the wrongness of it until you guys articulated it. Also, you guys were not the only ones who recognized that there was wholesale slaughter going on with no real acknowledgement of it. I especially felt bad about the poor treatment of Smallville. "Sorry about your hardware store Mr. Beasely. I hope your insurance will cover the decimation of your livelihood. Well, see you later."

  • Burgl3cut says:

The big bone I had to pick was they wrote in that Superman took a life. No. No. No. This has been covered over and over. It is the common ground for he and Batman. There is no crossing that line. Once that line is crossed it becomes easier to justify it over and over again until justification ceases. Batman becomes the very thing he fights both internally and externally. This becomes an easy path for Superman to become a totalitarian despot who exerts his will over the very people whose lives and liberties he is supposed to protect.

The consequences are never good. It has been covered in comics. It has been covered on TV (in both Justice League and Justice League Unlimited). It was even covered in video games such as Injustice: Gods Among Us. Shame on anybody who knew better, had the ability to circumvent, and allowed it to print.

Well, enough soapboxing. Loved listening to your discussion. Love your podcast Dan. I really look forward to more in the future.

Thanks! So glad you're enjoying the show. And yeah, looks like you pretty much feel the exact same way as us on the matter! Great examples with Injustice and such as well. Those are perfect examples of what could go wrong if Superman acts the way he did in MoS. Stuff like this is why I feel that Marvel Studios "gets it" and those behind the films at Warner Bros simply do not.
