Ghostbusters subscribers rewarded with GitD Slimer figure

Those who signed up for the ill-fated 2012 Ghostbusters Club Ecto-1 Subscription service from Mattel were told that they would be receiving a special gift after the subscriptions ended up being canned.

Those customers received an e-mail this week containing the above image letting them know that Mattel would be sending them a free Glow-in-the-Dark Slimer action figure.

It’s the same figure that was included with the first Egon figure back in 2009, but this time around he gets the GitD treatment. Mattel metnions that this figure will never be sold, so he is exclusive to those who attempted to subscribe.

Now this is what, the third Slimer figure in this line? And he’s just a GitD version of one most Ghostbusters collectors probably already have. But still, it’s hard to be upset about a free toy. Especially when it’s one that will be so limited. Chances are that, even though most folks have the original of this figure, this new GitD one will be sought after simply because of his low production numbers and limited release.

This whole Ghostbusters line from Mattel has really turned out to be kind of a bummer, though. I remember being so excited at the beginning of this line, and really enjoyed the first several figures. But as time went on and we got more and more variants of the fab four, and less and less of the other cool characters and ghsots we all wanted, interest in the line just really seemed to fizzle out. The most disappointing thing for me, still, is that they never went the route of making 6″ Real Ghostbusters figures like they initially announced they would be looking in to. I always held out hope for that.

Oh well. Come SDCC and the release of Dana, and once Mattel sends out this Slimer freebie, we can finally close the door on this toy line.

Now I wish I’d made an attempt at the subscription.

I was hoping for a solid color painted version like the proto showed in 2008. This is close. Plus hey it’s free. One figure reveal left in the line I hope it’s court room ray with tony.

I'd be cool with that, simply because I want Tony Scoleri. It'd be a shame if this line ends before we have both Scoleri Brothers.

As much as I hate to say it, I was really disappointed by this. I guess it's because it's a mold I already own because of the SDCC Egon. I was hoping for a new ghost like Tony Scoleri, or something that we hadn't really seen before. Oh well, he'll look good along with my legion of Minimates Slimers, and I do appreciate Mattel doing something for those of us who were subscribers.

I have a stRong feeling we are getting a courtroom buster with tony. Toy guru answered a QUESTION about him and did not give the normal. “if the market were there to sell at numbers needed bit we could maybe get to it”. I think it’s ray because it would be no new tooling. Egon would need a new torso with a Sculpted vest.

i wish i subscribed now too! 🙂 … even though i've already got 2 slimers, gitd is always an awesome feature in toys – and i think this makes a great gift to would-be subscribers …

i hope and pray we get a janosz and janine before this line ceases – but i can't see it happening …

Well, after a lot of thought, I opted not to join ecto-1. Now I wish I had. Anyone not wanting theirs?

  • Fallen Eldor says:

This is something I would have purchased from Matty.com GITD is always a good marketing gimmick that no matter my age I'll always fall for it! Strap on a removable proton pack with stream and some plastic food and this would have sold gangbusters!
