MattyCollector SDCC 2013 Exclusives Reveals Day 2: Man of Steel Movie Masters Box Set
Tuesday, April 30th, 2013 by Pixel Dan
Mattel continues to reveal their exclusives for this years San Diego Comic Con. Today’s reveal is from the upcoming Man of Steel film, though it’s not much of a reveal…
From MattyCollector.com:
This 2-pack brings to life the super charged battle between two powerful Kryptonians, Superman™ and the General Zod, an exciting diorama set in the city of Metropolis! The package features lights that simulate Superman’s Heat Ray vision, and shows off the Kryptonian’s super strength and flying ability. The diorama is completed with sound effects to help bring the scene to life. Full image will be available on 6/17.
This product will be available for pre-order at MattyCollector.com on June 4, 2013, to be picked up at San Diego Comic-Con (details to come). It will also be available for purchase at the show, then at MattyCollector.com on August 5, 2013.
Pixel Dan’s Thoughts:
I think we all assumed there would be a Man of Steel exclusive this year. Last year there was a Dark Knight Rises exclusive to coincide with that film, and it also featured some pretty cool sound and lighting effects on the package. I only wish we actually got to see what is inside this box! I’m not sure if Mattel plans to release images beforehand, or if this will end up being one of their “you’ll have to wait and see” tactics. I assume at the very least, they will send out review samples. I think we definitely need to see what’s inside this box so we know what to expect. I’m really hoping Mattel isn’t expecting us to blindly purchase this one.
EDIT: Looks like they’ll be revealing the full set on June 17th, even though pre-orders begin June 4th. So I suppose there will be some blind purchasing. I assume the reveal date must have something to do with avoiding movie spoilers.
In other news, Mattel has also revealed two very cool looking Battlestar Galactica ships from their Hot Wheels line that will also be available at SDCC. You can see those here.
Slightly ridiculous that the press release states the preorder goes up June 4th, but the full image reveal is June 17th. Surely the Superman fans who'd blindly order it are going to do so even after the reveal, while more people are going to be put off by not being able to see what they're ordering…? And if it's connected to the movie's release date, like they're not allowed to show it before the release, then why not set the preorder date accordingly? Like, opening weekend when people are going to be most hyped about it…?
Yeah, I assume it has to have something to do with avoiding spoilers from the movie. Mattel is probably following instructions from WB.
Want to see it!
