Great review. I think you hit it on the head as I never cared for the greyskull stands for the same reasons you have mentioned here. Too big…..too cheap and don't hold half my figures. I wish they would just do a basic stand like they did with dcuc.

  • Pixel Dan says:

Thanks! Yeah, I agree. I appreciate the idea of a diorama display piece, but when it comes to figure stands the DCUC-style basic stands would have worked much better. Or that tiered WWE stand…I really want one of those for MOTUC.

  • James says:

Great work on the reviews. I like your idea of the purple wash and lava in the cracks. I know its kind of silly, but the foot in the lava issue would drive me crazy. Thanks Pixeldan!

I'm not really a huge fan of either stands for many of the same reasons you've stated.

I don't think you need to be so apologetic for not liking them, though. Not everybody is going to like everything, and it is a review, which is just an opinion, when you get down to it.

    I appreciate everything you do.

  • Matt says:

Well, maybe that's not exactly what I meant. What I mean is that you don't have to say "in my opinion" more than once in a review, as that goes without saying, anyway, since it's, well, your review 🙂

Maybe I was reading too much into it, lol.

    Love the new site, BTW.

  • Matt says:

Except apparently I can't figure out how to use the "reply" button.

      LOL! Cool! Thanks man! 😀

Just as a side-note, a while back I went to Lowe's and bought some wall tile really cheap on clearance. they are about the same size as these and I plan on making them my "Castle Grayskull" floor to display all of my figures on (although I haven't gotten around to it yet), as they look "castle-y" enough for me.

If people don't want to spend the money on these, that's always an option. I think I got about 20 for something like $5.

Sometimes you gotta be a little creative (and cheap, lol), but you can find some cool stuff out there to enhance a display.

Although I think these stands (and the Grayskull stands) are a great idea, I feel that the execution is a bit flawed as, like you've said, they actually take up MORE room. But for those who aren't thrilled with them, there are other alternatives, as I've mentioned.

        • Pixel Dan says:

Wall tile…that's actually a pretty cool idea! 🙂

And yeah, I definitely agree that the idea is good, the execution is lacking. I would much rather have some tiered stands to maximize display room, to be honest.

Those WWE stands are definitely cool, and also serve the purpose of saving space. Something like that for MOTUC would be welcome in my eyes, as well.

Thanks for the review. I don't have any of the stands yet, but was thinking about going after some grayskull and snake mountain stuff at the same time. After this review I think I'll save my money. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with these, I can just tell they're not to my taste and don't quite do what I hoped they would. So I appreciate the review, yours are the only video reviews I'll take the time to watch.

  • Poe Ghostal says:

I hate to say it, but these stands look like amateurish customs to me. the sculpting just isn't as good as the Grayskull stands, and both these and the Grayskull stands are too big and too expensive to get them for every figure.

That said, I will pick up at least one pack of these for review purposes. Not excited, though.

  • PrfktTear says:

I picked up a pack of grayskull stands but i don't use them at all so I doubt i will be buying these.

i completely agree about the paint though — i think the lava between the cracks would have been awesome!!!

i would love a tiered display though — i picked up a couple tiered shelves from bed bath and beyond for about eight bucks. they might not be pretty but it displays the figures well. i'd like to get some of the nice clear acrylic ones

ooorrrr one of these days i will get crafty and pick up some of those STYROFOAM 2Insulated Sheathing which can then be easily cut to size for a tiered display and maybe even carve in some detail and paint it up green like rock…

  • WOW IS TOTALLY AMAZING TALK TO YOU MAN, I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS, I HOPE TO SEE MY MOTUC CASTEL GRAYSKULL(CUSTOM OBVIUSLY), CHECK MY FLICKR OR MY FACE, GOOD TO SEE AND KEEP AND GOING WITH THE AMAZING REVIEWS.
