Awesome video. Love the big toy montage. I'm bummed out about the spring loaded feature, I agree it was not needed for an adult collcetor piece like this. Posing him is going to drive me nuts because of that. That being said, I am glad to be adding this to my collection.

Hey Dan, If you take a quick look at the instructions that came with the yellow and blue lion you'll see that they show the front feet turned back to match the support wedge. I have mine that way and they don't unlock on me. Give it a shot and see how it works. I don't have the Black lion yet so I've gotta wait.

    • Pixel Dan says:

i gave this a shot, and while it helps a little, my Blue Lion's legs just keep springing out. they just will not stay locked at all. 🙁 I think the mechanism is just not very good on my Blue Lion. I really am not a fan of this gimmick…

      • magneto76 says:

I have the same issue with the right front leg of the blue lion , it just releases when it wants to. My red lion is also so tight in the ratcheting joints on it's neck that i'm afraid it's going to break.

  • Southzen says:

I just don't understand the spring loaded gimick; the money for development and production could've been better spent. Looks like I may be stocking up on clear plastic rubber bands.

  • Aaron says:

Love his height! but he looks very cheap looking! almost like a Fisher Price toy!

  • Philip says:

do you have go lion stuff?

  • @srattigan says:

I noticed in the video that the Red Lion arm seemed to slide out pretty easily from the shoulder socket. Do the arms not lock in tightly to the Black Lion?

Awesome review Dan!! However, you forgot to say ‘Activate Interlocks!” before “Dynotherms Connected!” in your intro 🙂 That is one beast of a figure! I wasn’t able to subscribe to Club Lion Force but it would be awesome to have that figure on the shelves! I agree that with it being a Collectors Line that that the gimmicks didn’t need to be there. If they would have just used regular joints I wonder if the price would have been cheaper? More expensive? Also looking at the star shield, wouldn’t you be able to just flip it over for the other hand? Instead of the handle coming into the mouth from the top it would just be coming in from the bottom. Otherwise Great Review and congrats on adding another Voltron to your collection!

  • Samantha says:

I loved the video. I have to agree, the spring action was a bad design choice. I would have much rather seen better articulation than action gimmicks.

Great review Dan! Cant wait to order the black lion. As someone who didnt subscribe to the membership but has been buying directly off the Matty site think there is any chance of the figures being available for sale again? I was iffy on getting these initially and missed the red lion sale. Hoping Matty has it available again maybe XMas Sale or something.

  • Jedi Kermit says:

Too bad you don't have a Fortress Maximus to compare to. I'd love to have seen that

    • magneto76 says:

I have Fort Max and I'm planning on doing a Comparison picture when I get my Black Lion from the sub, i'll post it here 😉 He's the only other figure I can think of in that size category.

  • Dr Kain says:

How did you get the sword holder pieces apart?

  • Dr Kain says:

Oh yeah, and does his waist turn?

  • Brad_Bane says:

Kinda disappointing, but the lions didn't impress me all that much in the first place. For five hundred or more bucks, this thing should've been made a lot better, but it just wouldn't be MattyCollector without a laundry list of Q/C issues.

  • JonWes says:

Still excited about getting the Black Lion, but I am kind of sad the spring-loaded features are such an issue. I feel like there were some design issues they probably could have taken care of here. He's great and massive, but I do wish he was able to hold some cool poses when he was together.

One thing… but am I being dense… but on the shield, can you not rotate it a 180 degrees and put it in the other hand? Or is it only "right" in one direction?

  • Sword2Blanket says:

I'm so glad I didn't sub and missed getting that first lion (which led to me not getting any of them). I actually like the way Voltron looks, but the limited poseability and spring loaded leg issues make this totally not worth it to me. He's still cool, just not $300+shipping cool. And DEFINITELY not reseller prices cool.

  • Thistlehair says:

This lion looks huge! What is the size of his white mailer box (length, width, and heght)? I have to ship a few to friends and need to know ahead of time.

  • S-Pac says:

Despite the issues, it's still an impressive figure. The spring loaded feature does seem like a pain in the butt.

  • Liam says:

Great review as always, Dan! I just wanted to add that Voltron does have an articulated waist, and the hip joints swivel out in addition to the forward/backward motion. I've actually been able to get him into some really cool poses.

    • Pixel Dan says:

Great! Thanks for the update! My still has a terrible time standing. He leans forward really bad. Does yours have this issue?

      • Liam says:

If his legs are straight, yes. I have them bent and splayed a bit, though. I actually posted a pic on the Org Voltron thread if you're interested.

  • Jeremy says:

He also has thigh swivel. Please make another video to point these features out. I was slightly disappointed by the lack of articulation after watching the video then I found out he had 5 more points than mentioned. I just think people are getting the wrong idea about him( that he’s a brick). I love your videos but I believe this needs to be revised. Thanks.

    • Jeremy says:

Thats 20 points of articulation!!! Far from a “brick”. People are gonna be SUPER disappointed when new pics and reviews hit the web.

    • Pixel Dan says:

I've been thinking about doing a follow-up video on him for some time. It's just hard finding the time, but I'll see what I can do. I want to show off the legs still having popping problems on my yellow and blue lion even with the feet pointed back (especially my blue lion. I think he's just broken…). I'll play around with the articulation in the video more too. I think I gave a false impression that he was lacking a lot of articulation vs how well it all actually works. Mine has so many problems standing up becuase the joint at his waist keeps him from standing up straight.

We'll see what Ic an do. 🙂

  • Rjax says:

Is there a way to undo the display stand? I put the sword in it just as a place holder until I had time to convert the lions to Voltron with my kids, and now I can't get the sword out . . . the "holder" pieces wont come apart from the clear "base" pieces. Anyone know how to undo it without breaking them? thanks

    • Pixel Dan says:

I had this exact same problem and mentioned it in my black lion review. I ended up having to bend the stands pretty badly out of shape to remove the sword. 🙁 I'm anxious to hear if anyone has figured out a way to undo the stand correctly, yet.

      • Rjax says:

that's what I ended up doing, pulled them both apart to "slide" them over the end of the sword. It's a shame, because now there is no way I will put the sword back into the stands (even if I could). If anyone's figured out how to detach them from the stand bases, it would be much appreciated.
