Hello 6″ Star Wars Figures, Goodbye Money

Like many collectors out there, Star Wars figures played a big role in me becoming a collector. I have always joked that Star Wars was sort of the “gateway drug” of toy collecting. While not true for everyone, it seems like many folks out there started their toy obsession with one of Hasbro’s (or Kenner’s) 3.75″ heroes from that galaxy far, far away.

Eventually, it just got to be too much for me. For the most part, I still really like the figures Hasbro has been releasing. But I turned from a die-hard Star Wars collector to a casual collector once I started getting more heavily involved in other toy lines. There were just so many Star Wars figures, many of which were variants of variants, that I just could no longer keep up.

I’ve often said that the one thing that could bring me back in to buying Star Wars figures regularly again would be a really well-done 6″ scale line of figures.

Well, I guess it’s time to say goodbye to my money.

Hasbro has officially announced theΒ Star Wars Black Series, a line of 6″ scale, highly detailed and articulated action figures based on the heroes and villains from Star Wars! The line kicks off this year with 8 figures priced at $19.99 each, and will include characters such as Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing gear and Darth Maul.

That one image of the Luke figure already has me drooling! I cannot wait to see more!

So, how about you guys? Excited? Rather stick with the 3.75″ line? Indifferent? Sound off!

This is awesome!!!! I never really thought they would make a 6" line like this for Star Wars. Especially with the rising costs of action figures over the past few years. I need these!!!! If they don't get too out of control with the total number of characters in this line, I see myself getting them all!!!!

  • David (Barezz) says:

That's unexpected! I don't know that I will collect the line heavily (after all these years I can't imagine starting over in a new scale) but I imagine that I might get a few. At the very least Boba Fett and a Stormtrooper or two. And the Emperor and a couple of Royal Guards. Boba fett VS MOTUC He-Man could be a laugh πŸ™‚

There wasn't much info revealed in the post I read yesterday. I thought this post was going to have similar info, but instead was a full blown reveal of the line. I was surprised too!!!! It's pretty exciting. Here is the article from yesterday: http://www.rebelscum.com/story/front/The_411_Is_a

Good Bye Money indeed, how can I resist the power of the Dark side. I want them!

  • @fireball13z says:

This line could end up being the best toy news in years! Hasbro has no issues putting out a $250 3 3/4 scale falcon, so while I think a 6" scale falcon would never work, I sure could see a 6" scale X-wing! or speeder bikes!

  • Pixel Dan says:

Seriously guys, My mind is running wild with thoughts of these figures! I'm drooling over teh thoguht of a 6" Boba Fett or Aayla Secura!!

    I feel like this dude:

This is excellent news!! This definately has rekindled my Star Wars passion. Now if they would only give this same treatment to the 80's G.I.JOE line………… πŸ™‚

    • Pixel Dan says:

I've seen that mentioned a few times already today by fans, and I agree! A 6" G.I. Joe line like this could definitely be relaly cool!

  • CdoodlefromGdale says:

I guess i'll be living in a card board box insulated by my Star Wars Black Series b/c a 6" Stormtrooper/Clone Trooper army building is an absolute must!!

  • jas says:

6" Darth Vader vs. 6" Darth Maul vs. Marvel Legends vs. DC Universe Classics vs. MOTU Classics…..oop my brain just broke.

  • jlp2711 says:

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!" Vader / My Wallet. I finally weaned myself off Star Wars figures. I got all 500 or so I wanted, now 6in? It will start small of course. A Vader here, a Stormtrooper there, then next thing I know I will be knee deep in them. Why do you have to keep showing me awesome new things to buy?

  • Harrig says:

I'm always a sucker for a good stormtooper!

  • jeqi says:

threeA was gonna do something like this right?

  • Jay says:

Even though I am seriously tired of Star Wars, im interested in seeing a Darth Vader, Boba Fett and a few others in the scale, might, MIGHT pick up a few. Hmmm, a to-scale AT-AT & Millennium Falcon…?

  • joe says:

with the new movie on the rise. hasbro need to do something to keep the line moving on. 6inch or 3inch i would keep on spending my money anyway. collecting is like a drug on something. star wars is one of them.

  • Tony says:

If they look good, I will only get the original characters from the old films in their original costumes, so nothing from the new films or Luke Skywalker in his X-Wing gear or Darth Maul…That means R2D2 is the ONLY figure I will get from the first wave. They should start the line with all of the original characters, nothing from the new films….

  • I just heard about this a few hours ago. I'm really excited for this line!

  • Alphatrion says:

Star Wars figures are what got me into collecting in 1995. After collecting up until 2008' I got sick of collecting them. How many resculpts can Hasbro make of any one chatacter. I, like Dan mentioned, couldn't keep up with it and I found it ridiculous. I only collected the OTC figures and had so many, even if I wanted to look at them it was a chore because it took so long to look through them all. I said enough is enough, and I have gotten rid of every last figure. All I wanted was a complete set of OTC figs, but the line never ends. That's why I like the original figs. The made 96 or so figures and that was it. Kenner would reissue the same sculpt for each movie instead of going crazy with like what's going on now. I will pass on these new 6 inch even though they are cool. I like 1/6 scale stuff now.

  • Vonhahn says:

This is where my money is going in 2014 instead of Mattel and MOTU. Imagine these figures on Amazon…$19.99 prime free shipping and no sales tax for most folks. Mattel just cant keep up. The figure even comes with his sword….

    • The Rook says:

I've been slowing down with MOTUC. I have to agree, I'm assuming these figures will be at most of the retail stores, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R' Us and at $20 it's gonna be tough to choose a $27 figure + Digital River's crapping overpriced shipping cost.

  • Thistlehair says:

As a kid, I never had toys, but my cousin had both MOTU and Star Wars figures that I would play with. The reason I love MOTU so much today is because of the fond memories I had as a kid. I have since added a lot of MOTU to my collection, but don't own any Star Wars figures because I never knew where to start. Well, now I know….I am starting my Star Wars collection with this line! They look awesome!!!

  • Thistlehair says:

Also, where will these be sold? Online? In box stores? etc.

  • Anthony says:

Looks awesome! I how ever dont have the time to go searching for these at retail…..

  • @Sompeetalay says:

This is a tough decision. I've been a collector of the 3" 3/4 since I was a kid in the '80s and now they're making 6" figures? Luke looks wonderful and that's what makes the decision truly difficult.

  • Jon E. says:

That's totally true about Star Wars being a gateway drug. When POTF2 came into being, I sold all my X-MEN and MOTU toys to make way. Years later, I'm selling all my POTF2 toys to support my MOTUC habit and buying back all my vintage MOTU. So it goes…

    • The Rook says:

I was definitely into POTF2 when it came out, I bought almost everything. But when I was selling off a lot of my old toys back in the late 90's when eBay was starting to become popular, I couldn't pull the trigger on my vintage MOTU. Centurions, M.A.S.K., StarCom, Secret Wars, Super Powers, G.I. Joe, even Transformers were all sold. MOTU and original Star Wars survived what I like to call "The Great Action Figure Purge".

  • […] 6″ Star Wars action figures. This was another bit of news that I found so exciting that I put up a post about it for discussion. Since the initial post, we have learned that 2013 will see the release of 8 figures spread over 2 […]

  • Nemanja says:

As a child, I was mesmerized by Star Wars. I have always wanted to own some SW toys. However, Hasbro made them only in 3.75" scale, and I don't like those, because they are just too small. I owned some of them, even an imperial Scout Trooper on his Speeder Bike, but I ultimately sold them, because I just have never been satisfied with their scale. Now, this is something completely else! This is what I have been waiting for whole my life! However, meanwhile, I have started collecting Kotobukiya Star Wars 1/10 ARTFX+ line in about the same scale, and I will continue to do so, plus I will buy these new 6" Hasbro figures. So, I will probably end up walking the street naked and starving, but I WILL BUY these figures… πŸ™‚

  • Bswayn says:

    Lol goodbye money indeed

  • Grouchy Smurf says:

Cool, but, I wish it would stick to the OT and main characters. A sandtrooper is not a main character, a stormtrooper is. Why lead with variants? If it's truly for dads, they should know that dads largely consider the PT second-rate in comparison to the holy OT. Darth Maul may be about the coolest thing to come from the PT, but I still don't want a figure of him. And I don't want to be seeing Jar-Jar Binks, Mace Windu, Amidala, Young Anakin, etc, before the key OT characters. I would personally skip every PT figure. Well, except maybe torn-jumpsuit Amidala? =D

  • Rinzler says:

I've been out of star wars toys for a while…But it looks like this is gonna get me back into them.
